Basarnas: Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 Aircraft Did Not Emit Emergency Signals

JAKARTA - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) stated that there was no emergency signal emitted by the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) from the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 plane which crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands.

"We checked on the ELT on the Sriwijaya 182 plane (SJ182, red) because all of the planes were registered at Basarnas ELT. However, (at the time, red) this incident did not transmit (signal, red)," said Deputy Search Operations. and Basarnas Assistance Major General Bambang Suryo Aji during a press conference broadcast on KompasTV, Saturday, January 9.

This raises questions and will be checked.

"This is what we need to check later, why not emit. Usually it will emit," he said.

"When the plane lost contact in our Puskodal above (ELT, red) it will emit a signal. That indicates a crash against the plane. But it does not transmit," he added.

The news about the loss of this aircraft, continued Bambang, was actually obtained by Basarnas from AirNav.

"In fact, we received information from AirNav that there was a lost contact that occurred for so many hours," he said.

It was reported earlier that the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 plane for the Jakarta-Pontianak route had reportedly lost contact, on Saturday, January 9. This news was later confirmed by the Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Novie Riyanto.
