To Anticipate Congestion Due To MRT Phase 2A Project, DKI Transportation Agency Will Do This
JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) is currently building the MRT Phase 2A line which will connect the HI Roundabout area to the City.
Related to this, congestion is predicted to increase from the Harmoni area to Mangga Besar.
The reason is, there will be a narrowing of the road in a long period of time.
Responding to this, Jakarta Traffic Engineering and Road Equipment Section Head Hendry Sampurna said the road narrowing would occur from 28 February to 27 September 2023.
This was due to the construction of canal decking in the MRT project.
"This decking canal is our main concern in traffic management, because for approximately 100 meters there will be a narrowing of traffic lanes in the canal decking segmentation," he told journalists in Jakarta, Thursday, February 24.
Hendry said, narrowing this route would make the road that originally had three lanes become only two lanes, resulting in a bottleneck. Thus, it is projected that traffic jams will definitely occur.
"About three lanes from south to north, it becomes two lanes. Likewise from north to south, and that is between the Mangga Besar and Sawah Besar segments," he said.
He admitted that his party had held an internal meeting to discuss traffic engineering schemes that would be implemented on Wednesday, February 22, one of which was the push and pull policy strategy in optimizing MRT Jakarta.
"Thank God, yesterday we had an agreement, because we certainly cannot deny that from February to September there will be traffic congestion," he said.
Not only that, but his party also pays attention to the People's Crossing Bridge (JPO) in the area.
Later, MRT Jakarta will dismantle three JPOs.
As anticipation, continued Hendry, his party will use pelican (pedestrian light controlled) crossings at the three locations.
"We are trying to adjust it because if we don't arrange the pelican crossing in such a way, it will result in significant traffic delays because the positions are quite close together. However, after we carried out the implementation plan, it turned out that all of them met the technical requirements, so it's just how we reduce if there was a delay," he said.

The demolition of the three JPOs which are directly connected to the Transjakarta bus stops will be dismantled in stages.
"That February 25 for the Mangga Besar bus stop, February 28 for the Sawah Besar bus stop, and March 3 for the Harmoni bus stop. Our full concentration will be on Harmoni because it is the central point. This TJ bus stop will move, there was a temporary bus stop on the left and right," he added.
