The existence of the National Food Agency is controlled in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 66/2021, which refers to the Job Creation Act.
Citing the Presidential Decree, the National Food Agency is responsible for the President, tasked with coordinating, formulating, and determining food availability policies, stabilizing food supply and prices, food and nutrition insecurity, uniforming food consumption, and food safety.
Presidential Decree Number 66/2021 regarding the National Food Agency has proven to have assigned this agency to carry out government duties in the food sector which was previously spread across various technical ministries.
This camp is wanted to facilitate the progress of cross-sectoral coordination to make import policies more targeted and on target.
Inflation-Inflation-Independent Strategy
To reduce the inflation rate so as not to experience a significant increase, the National Food Agency supports the strategic role of the region in regulating food inflation, considering that food prices, especially strategic staple foods, are a significant part of rising inflation.
Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi said the extra effort to regulate inflation should be carried out thoroughly involving the central and local government.
"Inflation control cannot be done alone, the role of work units/services that handle food in provinces and districts/cities as partners of the National Food Agency in the regions is very important and strategic. Of course, also with other relevant stakeholders, we collaborate and make a joint commitment to maintaining and controlling food inflation," said Arief in a press release, Friday (7/10/2022).
The National Food Agency also supports synergies and collaborates with all parties, from the production, distribution, to trade sectors, both legislative elements, institutional ministries, BUMN/BUMD, associations, business actors, to social groups.
Arief used this momentum to bring together regional food offices and food SOEs so that they can provide mutual profit to each other, and accelerate the realization of a sustainable national food ecosystem according to the closed loop scheme that is being built by the government.
