Bawaslu Assesses Supervision Of The 2024 Election Campaign On Social Media
JAKARTA - Expert Staff of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Bachtiar Baetal said that his party is conducting routine studies related to the supervision of the 2024 Election campaign on social media.
"We are also conducting regular studies related to social media because the regulations governing social media are very small, in fact almost non-existent. Meanwhile, the campaign concept continues to experience movement, such as starting to use social media," said Bachtiar, reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 20.
He said this in response to suggestions from the Executive Director of Kata Rakyat, Alwan Ola Riantoby in the discussion.
Alwan suggested to the General Election Commission (KPU) and Bawaslu to regulate campaign conditions on social media, one of which is TikTok, because this platform is an effective means of campaigning.
"The fact that today's social media trend is the most effective is TikTok. Going forward, everyone will definitely campaign on TikTok and TikTok is not regulated in PKPU as one of the media that is allowed for campaigns. The question is, if it's not regulated in PKPU, then it can, right?" said Alwan.

According to him, all participants in the 2024 Election will switch to using TikTok for campaigning. Thus, KPU through KPU regulations (PKPU) and Bawaslu through Bawaslu regulations (Perbawaslu) need to regulate provisions and supervision regarding campaigns in the TikTok space.
"TikTok is not regulated as one of the media platforms that are allowed to campaign. In the future, everyone can campaign using TikTok and that is allowed. I am sure that all candidate pairs (candidate pairs) will use TikTok to carry out future campaigns," he said.
