High Disaster Potential, Regent Asks Residents of Sleman Special Region of Yogyakarta to Be Alert
SLEMAN - The potential for disaster in the Sleman area of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is quite high. For this reason, Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo asked the public to have awareness in efforts to reduce disaster risk.
"With this awareness, it is hoped that it can increase community preparedness and vigilance in facing potential disasters in their area", said Kustini as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 16.
According to him, the inauguration of the KSB is a strategic step to instill public awareness of disaster risk.
"Basically the existence of KSB is to form a community that is resilient in dealing with disasters and can anticipate and reduce losses through an adaptation process", he said.
Kustini assesses that the development and formation of KSB are necessary for the Sleman Regency area because the community is the recipient of the direct impact of the disaster and at the same time is the first actor to respond to the disaster around it.
As many as 50 people consisting of volunteers, community leaders, community Protection unit, cadres, youth organizations and people with disabilities, were confirmed directly by the Regent of Sleman which was marked by the symbolic submission of an inauguration Decree (SK) to representatives of KSB participants.
Sigit Indarto, Head of the Social Protection and Social Security Division of the Sleman Regency Social Service, said the formation of the KSB for the Sardonoharjo Village had started on Tuesday, February 14.
"Preparations for the formation of the KSB were carried out with various training materials including first aid in emergencies, quick reaction teams, shelters, public kitchens, logistics and posts", he said.
All of the training materials were then displayed before the Sleman Regent in the format of classical material activities, practice per division, and simulations.
