National Police Map Vulnerable Areas For 2024 Election

JAKARTA - National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the National Police had mapped vulnerable areas during the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) to ensure that the democratic event runs safely and under control.

This mapping became one of the discussions at the 2023 TNI Polri Leadership Meeting (Rapim) in Jakarta, Wednesday, 8 February.

"Facing the political year, related to this there are two mappings from Bawaslu and the police," Sigit said as quoted by ANTARA.

The National Police Chief explained that the mapping from the police is called the Potential Election Vulnerability Index (IPKP), while that from Bawaslu is called the Election Vulnerability Index (IKP).

Even though there are two mappings, said Sigit, they have the same goal of mapping vulnerable and very vulnerable areas, so it is a priority to carry out security during the implementation of the 2024 elections so that they can proceed directly, publicly, freely, confidentially, honestly and fairly.

"The bottom line is to determine which areas we must secure, the areas are vulnerable, and are very vulnerable which is a concern for TNI Polri personnel to really prepare and guard so that unexpected potentials do not develop," said Sigit.

The IPKP Polri, he said, covers six dimensions, namely health protocols, implementation, contestants, community participation, the potential for disruption, and threshold for disruption.

The National Police Chief said that the Indonesian National Police and the TNI in the success of the 2024 Election did not work alone, but collaborated with local governments, central government, election administrators, and community leaders.

"From there, of course, the TNI-Polri does not stand alone, but works together with the local government and the central government who have election organizers and existing figures so that we can manage it so that it is completely safe," said Sigit.

Security for the 2024 election was one of the materials discussed at the 2023 TNI Polri Rapim which was attended by President Joko Widodo.

In this activity, the President reminded the main task of the TNI-Polri to maintain a conducive situation while always avoiding involvement in practical politics.

The President did not give specific directions because he believes the TNI and Polri already know and understand their respective duties in maintaining a conducive atmosphere for the political year ahead of the 2024 Election.
