Abu Bakar Ba'asyir Is Free From Gunung Sindur Prison This Friday

JAKARTA - The convict in the case of terrorism, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, will be released from the Gunung Sindur Class IIA Special Prison on Friday, January 8.

The head of the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the Directorate General of Corrections, Rika Aprianti, said that Ba'asyir was free because his 15-year sentence had ended.

"The person concerned will be released on January 8, 2020 according to the expiration date or the expiration of the criminal period," Rika told reporters in a written statement, Monday, January 4.

Regarding the release of Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, the Directorate General of Corrections will work together with the National Counterterrorism Agency, Densus 88 Anti-terror.

"And coordinate with the family and related parties," he said.

It is known that Ba'asyir was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court (PN Jaksel) in 2011. The verdict did not change until the cassation level.

Ba'asyir is the leader and carer of Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin Ngruki Sukoharjo, Central Java. He was declared proven legally and convincingly to motivate other people to use funds to commit criminal acts of terrorism.
