53-year Record Broken When Tottenham Beat Manchester City
JAKARTA - Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester City in the English Premier League continued, Monday, February 6, early morning of Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
Tottenham won with a narrow score of 1-0 at White Hart Lane. The host's only goal was scored by Harry Kane in the 14th minute.
The goal not only meant three points for The Lily Whites, but also broke a record that has lasted 53 years.
The goal was the 267th for Kane during his Tottenham uniform. That made him the club's leading goalscorer, surpassing the legendary Jimmy Graves.
The moment that broke the 53-year record came in the Spurs' first attack against City.
Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg intercepted a pass outside the City penalty box. He then drew a reaction from the visiting defender and put Kane in an advantageous position.
He then passed the ball to Kane. The England national team player, with his skill, passed Ederson and put the ball into the bottom corner.
Meanwhile, the goal was also Kane's 200th in the English Premier League. The 29-year-old England captain is only the third player to reach that figure since the restructuring of the top flight in 1992.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is the second most with 208 goals. Meanwhile, Alan Shearer is the top scorer in the English Premier League with 260 goals.
Kane himself seems not so concerned with personal achievements. He actually wants to focus on tasting trophies with Tottenham, something he has never felt before.
He also insisted that a move was not on his mind. Even though he is about to enter the final year of his contract in North London
"I'm concentrating on this season. There will always be talk about my future, I just want to focus on my job on the pitch," he said last month.
"There's still a long way to go, there's a lot to play for like the Champions League, the FA Cup and that's what I'm focused on," Kane concluded.
