Trump Again Extends Prohibition Of Entry To US Immigrants

JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump has again extended the immigration ban. So that foreigners can no longer apply for a "green card" (non-permanent residents), including foreign temporary workers, to enter the US.

The regulations issued in April and June 2020 were due to expire on December 31, 2020. But they were extended again to March 31, 2021 - which Trump said was necessary to protect US workers in an economy hit by the pandemic.

At least 20 million people in the US are still dependent on pre-employment assistance, as the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread in the country.

Meanwhile, President-elect Joe Biden, who will take office on January 20, criticized the ban but has not said whether he will cancel it soon.

In October, a federal judge in California rejected Trump's ban on entry to temporary foreign workers, as the policy applies to hundreds of thousands of businessmen who have taken to court.

The judge said that the prohibition caused "irreparable harm" to business actors, namely by disrupting their operations and causing them to eventually terminate employee employment and close job vacancies.

The US Department of Justice is appealing the judge's decision to the 9th District Court of Appeal, which is scheduled for a hearing session on January 19, 2021.
