Returning From Merauke, KPU Commissioner Viryan Aziz Is Positive For COVID-19
JAKARTA - The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) Commissioner Viryan Aziz admitted that he was confirmed positive for COVID-19. Viryan positive for COVID-19 based on the PCR swab test conducted yesterday.
"I just received the results of the swab test which was carried out last night and today the results are positive for COVID-19," Viryan told reporters, Thursday, December 31.
Viryan admitted that on December 26 he carried out electoral duties in Merauke, Papua. During the trip, Viryan felt unwell.
Arriving at Merauke Airport, Viryan underwent a rapid test for COVID-19. However, the results are nonreactive. Then, Viryan continued his activities.
"Then I also checked the blood, it was found that the hemoglobin was low and the others were normal. Activities in Merauke were reduced and I returned to Jakarta on December 29," said Viryan.
Upon arrival in Jakarta, Viryan admitted that his body temperature had increased to 38 degrees Celsius. So, Viryan underwent a swab test on December 30th.
"I decided last night to undergo a swab, today the results came out and it was positive. The current condition is that the body temperature is around 38 degrees Celsius and is still dizzy," he said.
It is known that several KPU members were infected with COVID-19. First, KPU commissioner Evi Novida Ginting Manik. Evi was confirmed positive for COVID-19 after undergoing a swab test on Monday, September 7 yesterday. Evi's test results came out on Wednesday, September 9 and tested positive for the coronavirus.
Furthermore, KPU Chairman Arief Budiman tested positive for COVID-19 while carrying out a swab test on September 17. Then, KPU Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi also tested positive for COVID-19 on September 18.
The three of them undergo independent isolation in their respective official homes. Now, Arief, Pramono, and Evi have recovered from COVID-19 and can return to work at the KPU office.
