Bareskrim Rejects Postponement Of Ustaz Maaher's Detention

JAKARTA - Bareskrim Polri has not granted the request for a suspension of detention against Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi or Soni Eranata. Ustaz Maaher was named a suspect in the case of alleged hate speech or insulting Habib Lutfi bin Ali bin Yahya.

"Until now, Bareskrim Polri has not suspended suspected suspects," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, to reporters, Tuesday, December 29.

The suspension of detention of Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi or Soni Eranata was proposed by his wife, Iqlima Ayu, on Monday, December 28. Iqlima also apologized to all those who were injured.

"As the wife of Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi, I begged to open a door of apology to Habib Lutfi and the NU extended family to forgive my husband. His human name is a mistake. So I beg my husband to be released," he said.

Efforts to apply for a suspension of detention were also carried out by nine kiai, namely Zaenal Arifin, Kiai Barkah, Siroj Ronggolawe, Abd Mudjib, Kiai Saifudin Aman, Marzuqi, Gus Ismail, Muhammad Rofi'i Mukhlis and Gus Mustain.

In this case, the Directorate of Cyber Crime, Bareskrim Polri arrested Ustadz Maaher At-Thuwailibi alias Soni Eranata regarding the upload of hate speech on the Twitter social media account @ustadzmaaher_.

In his case, the suspect Soni Eranata is suspected of having committed a criminal act of disseminating information aimed at creating hatred or enmity for individuals and / or certain community groups based on ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup (SARA) as referred to in Article 45 paragraph (2) Jo Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions.
