Regarding Cruiser Motorcycle Entering Toll Road, PUPR Minister Basuki: The Regulations Must Be Arranged First

JAKARTA - Demand from the Big Motorcycle Community of Indonesia (MBCI) regarding big motorbikes (moge) that can access toll roads is still being discussed. Related to this, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono also spoke up.

According to him, by regulation, big motorbikes cannot enter the toll road.

"That regulation. The regulation is, toll roads can't be accessed by motorcycle, so it must be regulated first," Basuki told the media crew at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 17.

On the same occasion, the Director General of Highways at the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian confirmed that there were toll roads specifically for motorbikes to pass, but on that toll road, there are no four-wheeled vehicles.

In addition, said Hedy, the problem of traffic discipline in Indonesia is not good enough, so it is feared that it will cause problems.

"We do have a number of special toll roads for motorbikes, but they are not integrated with four-wheeled vehicles, because of problems with discipline and safety," he said.

Furthermore, Hedy said that abroad, motorbikes are considered cars, and the drivers also obey traffic rules.

"Because outside of that the motorbike is considered one car, for example he stops, yes, motorbikes are not allowed to be beside the car, (motorcycles) are only behind the car, (Indonesia), right, it's still far away," he concluded.
