Talking About Solo Guitar The Song Face It Alone, Brian May: I'm Trying To Be A Voice Next To Freddie
JAKARTA - When Brian May spoke to Total Guitar about the song Face It Alone, his first words were a tribute to the writer and singer of the song.
Queen released the song 'new' featuring Freddie Mercury on vocals. Guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor first notified fans of Face It Alone's planned presence in a summer interview last year.
This song was originally recorded in the late 1980s during a session for the album The Miracle. However, it was never released. Queen's production and archive found it again when they started working on the box set album which was re-released in November.
The city of glory, of course, Freddie's voice, said Brian, dedicating this song to Queen's iconic friend and vocalist.
"It's amazing. You hear that quality in his voice. You hear the passion in his voice. And he doesn't know he's scared. The way he bends some notes is very beautiful."
The Miracle itself is Queen's 13th full album released two years before Mercury's 1991 death due to complications from AIDS.
As Brian remembers about that period: "We are dealing with Freddie's deteriorating health, and working together to support him."
Brian May's Solo guitar in this song is considered perfect like a solo in Freddie Mercury's signature songs, such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Killer Queen.
"You can hear that I'm playing this solo is basically a means to move fromverse one toverse two," Brian said.
"It's like: this is what I feel right now, and maybe we'll do it later, and who knows what might happen? So, there were a lot of solos at that time. I try to be the voice next to Freddie and to expand the atmosphere and message from the song. So it's very real."
