Inaugurates The First Export In Patimban, Jokowi: This Port Helps Reduce Congestion In Bekasi-Jakarta

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) witnessed the first export marking the operation of Patimban International Port, Subang, West Java. The export is in the form of 140 units of vehicles from various brands, namely Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki which are transported by the MV ship. Suzuka Express with the aim of Brunei Darussalam.

President Jokowi witnessed the launch from the big screen at the Bogor Presidential Palace accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

"In the midst of this pandemic, we have completed one of the national strategic projects, namely the construction of the Patimban Port, alhamdulillah. This project has an important and strategic role both in efforts to improve the economy in West Java and nationally in general," said President Jokowi, quoted from Between, Monday 21 December.

According to the President, the presence of the new main port will play an important role for growth and trade in the West Java region.

According to President Jokowi, Patimban Port has a strategic location, which is between Kertajati Airport and industrial areas in Bekasi, Karawang and Purwakarta. So that the existence of these ports will be a key link between regions such as the manufacturing industry, tourism, and agricultural centers and support the acceleration of exports.

"This port also serves to strengthen the existence of the Tanjung Priok Port, which is currently overcrowded and has caused congestion on the Bekasi-Jakarta and Jakarta-Bekasi roads," the President added.

The total area of the Patimban port as a whole reaches 654 hectares, 300 hectares of which will be allocated for containers and vehicle terminals. As for the port capacity, it will reach 7.5 million TEUs in 2027.

In November 2019, President Joko Widodo reviewed the development of Patimban Port development, which is a long-term and gradual development project with an investment value of IDR 29 trillion to IDR 50 trillion.

The Head of State indeed has a vision that Patimban Port can become a major hub for national automotive exports.

In this first phase of development, Patimban Port has been equipped with a 35 hectare container terminal and a 25 hectare vehicle terminal with a capacity of 218,000 CBU which will increase to 600,000 CBU by the end of the development phase in 2027.
