Here's Messi About The World Cup Finals, Giroud: He Will Not Enjoy Best Night
JAKARTA - French national team striker Olivier Giroud warned Lionel Messi ahead of the 2022 World Cup final. Giroud said he would not let Messi enjoy a beautiful night in the final.
"Lionel Messi is an amazing player, but we won't let him enjoy the best night he can have," Giroud was quoted as saying by the Mirror on Friday, December 16.
"We want to win this game. We want to win the World Cup again," said Giroud about the target.
Giroud became the player who helped Les Bleus advance to the final after overthrowing Morocco. His escape from France to the final round will bring them together with Argentina on Sunday, December 18 at the Lusail Stadium.
The team meeting will make Giroud most likely also meet Messi, Albiceleste's life. Giroud realized stopping Messi was one way to overthrow Argentina and he would try to do so.
"We will try everything to stop him (Messi)," he said
"But not only Messi in that team. They have great players working for the team too. I think that's why they're so strong," Giroud continued.
Again meeting Argentina made Giroud reminisce about the moment in 2018. At that time France won 4-3 in the last 16 of the Russian World Cup.
At that time Les Bleus was able to overthrow Argentina after N'Golo Kante locked Messi. But now Kante is absent from the 2022 World Cup. Without Kante, Giroud is now just waiting and following the coach's direction.
"But this time I don't know what the plan is (without Kante). We'll see what the coach will do," said Giroud.
