Mandalika Racing Team Indonesia Set Top 10 Target In Moto2 2021

JAKARTA - Mandalika Racing Team Indonesia sets a target to finish in the top 10 when they collaborate with the SAG Team to compete in the Moto2 2021 event.

The first team from Indonesia merged with a team from Spain who was experienced in the intermediate class in the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team which was inaugurated earlier this month.

"We will learn a lot with the team we collaborate with and with competent people, we really hope that 2022 Indonesian riders can get points. Meanwhile, our target this year is to be in the top 10," said MRTI director Kemalsyah Nasution in a virtual discussion. which was reported by Antara, Friday.

The first year of MRTI in the intermediate class event will also be a learning platform for the pilot teams of Indonesian men and women because one of the challenges of establishing a world-class team, said Kemal, is the lack of Indonesian mechanics who meet standards in the international arena.

"We understand that not many Indonesians do not yet have competence in the MotoGP or world class, so we must prepare for the future.

"There are some mechanics who are reliable, but the problem is that they do not speak international languages.

Later, there will be two slots prepared in the Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team for Indonesian junior mechanics who will intern on the team.

MRTI is still waiting for a decision from Dorna regarding the submission of the name of national racer Dimas Ekky Pratama as one of their riders.

Dimas previously raced in the intermediate class for one season in 2019 as a Honda Team Asia racer despite being absent from several races due to injuries and the bench he left last year was filled by Indonesian racer Andi Farid Izdihar.

The SAG Team itself closed the 2020 season in sixth place in the standings with 160 points presented by the duo of Australian riders Remy Gardner and Kasma Daniel from Malaysia.

Gardner will move to the Red Bull KTM Ajo team next year, and the SAG Team will rely on the experience of Swiss racer Thomas Luthi to replace the Australian racer.

Meanwhile, what became a polemic was, as revealed by the SAG Team, Kasma was still under contract with the team from Spain when MRTI proposed the name Dimas.

Kemal revealed that there might be news from Dorna at the end of this year regarding Dimas' fate in Moto2.
