Ajinomoto Achieves The Environmental Award Thanks To Implementing Zero Waste
JAKARTA - PT Ajinomoto Indonesia (Ajinomoto) won the environmental award "Green Initiative Awards" for the consumer goods category organized by catadata thanks to implementing zero waste which minimizes and reduces environmental pollution to zero.
"The award we received.. became a trigger for Ajinomoto to continue to innovate in creating new initiatives that can help preserve the environment. We hope that this environmental initiative that does this can inspire and trigger various parties to participate in the maintenance of the surrounding environment," said Tri Mulyo Indianto, Director of PT Ajinomoto Sales Indonesia in a press release, quoted from Antara, Sunday, December 11.
The "Green Initiative Awards" were given to companies that implemented various initiatives to increase positive impacts on the environment and create sustainable systems.
The assessment was carried out by identifying the company's commitments and innovations towards green practices, including the clean energy transition, low emission commitment, sustainable finance, and so on. The award was given to companies in four corporate sectors, namely banking, energy/mining, technology & transportation, and consumer goods.
Ajinomoto received an award for the innovation to create zero waste and also become the first MSG flavoring brand company in Indonesia with environmentally friendly packaging.
Present in Indonesia since 1969, Ajinomoto has contributed to better health for Indonesian families by opening up the power of amino acids to address food and health problems related to eating and aging habits through contributions to improving food, health and useful lives.

The Ajinomoto factory in Mojokerto, Tri said, has made various efforts to achieve Zero Waste. Various efforts have been made, including reducing carbon emissions, reducing water consumption by up to 35 percent, through Increasing Wastewater Management (Waste Water Management Improvement), as well as the application of Bio-Cycle & Eco-Activity which produces side products such as Pupuk Ajifol, Amina, as well as raw materials for FML animal feed.
In addition to processing liquid side products (by product) from MSG production, Ajinomoto is also processing side products in solid form and several other domestic wastes into GCC Mix land improvements, TRITAN animal feed materials, and several other co-products that have selling value.
Not only that, the factory, which is located in East Java, also always implements reduce, reuse, recovery, and recycle activities for most factory activities.
For better air, Ajinomoto participated in reducing carbon emissions levels in Indonesia by reducing 38,500 tons of CO2 (carbon emissions) by reducing fuel consumption of all transportation in the workplace, cutting the use of electricity, and overcoming leakage of steam in production equipment.
Carbon emissions are one of the contributors to air pollution that has a negative impact on human health and the environment.
Ajinomoto also contributed to overcoming the problem of the accumulation of plastic waste by reducing it to 30 percent of the use of plastic material in its packaging and replacing it with paper raw materials.
Through Ajinomoto's initiative to become the first MSG company to use paper-based packaging. Reduction in the use of plastic materials was also followed by Brand Masako gradually starting October 2021. Not only reduced the use of plastic material in packaging, but Masako also reduced plastic in the header part.
The Masako no inner plastic and take out header part movement when compared to the previous packaging, can reduce plastic use by 8.4 percent.
