KPU Asks Jokowi To Issue A Perppu Before December 14 So That The Papuan DOB Can Enter The 2024 General Election
Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asyari asked President Joko Widodo to issue a government regulation in lieu of a law (perppu) to ensure that the new autonomy region (DOB) of Papua is included in the 2024 General Election.Hasyim hopes that Jokowi can issue a Perppu that changes several articles in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections to accommodate the Papuan DOB before December 14, 2022."The KPU hopes that the Perppu will be issued before December 14, 2022," said Hasyim to reporters, Friday, December 9.Hasyim said that the Perppu needs to be issued before December 14 so that it is in line with the stages of holding the election that have been set.In this case, the KPU stipulates that December 14, 2022 is the time for the determination of political parties (political parties), the draw for political party serial numbers and the announcement of political parties participating in the 2024 election.On December 14, 2022, the government also submitted potential population data for election voters (DP4) to the KPU.Then, December 16, 2022 is the time to hand over the support for prospective DPD candidates to the provincial KPU."In this regard, it is necessary to pay close attention to how important Perppu is as an amendment to several provisions in Law 7/2017 to ensure certainty of holding the 2024 General Election, especially in the provincial and election DOBs in IKN," explained Hasyim.On Thursday, December 18, the DPR Plenary Meeting passed the Law on the Formation of Southwest Papua Province to make Southwest Papua the 38th province in Indonesia.Meanwhile, South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua, the Mountains were first inaugurated. The bill (RUU) on the new autonomy region (DOB) of the three provinces was passed at the end of June 2022.The government is currently preparing the Election Perpu as an implication for the establishment of four new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua, namely those that contain a list of electoral districts (dapil) as well as the number of members of the DPR, DPRD, and DPD in the 2024 General Election.
