Gregoria Increases Self-confidence After The Champion Of The Tokyo 2020 Olympics

JAKARTA Women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is increasingly confident after defeating the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei in the first match of the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals group phase.

Gregoria defeated the Chinese women's singles in a three-game match 21-9, 14-21, 21-16 at Nimibutr Arena, Bangkok, Thailand, Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

"I can believe in him when Chen Yu Fei in the first game didn't match what I imagined," Gregoria said in a statement received on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

Gregoria said he was actually ready for a tight match against Chen Yu Fei. However, it seems that his opponent is not very ready for field conditions.

"And it was very profitable for me and I don't want to lose that moment," said Gregoria.

"In the second game, he started to find the rhythm of his game while I was still adapting to the side of the field, so he turned himself out a lot. In the third game, I didn't think anything. I just wanted to show the best, the problem of the results later," he added.

This is Gregoria's second victory over Chen Yu Fei from their six meetings. The only previous win he got when they met in 2017 in the round of 32 of the Indonesia Open.

At that time, Gregoria also had to fight for three games to beat the women's singles, who are currently ranked fourth in the world.

Next Gregoria will face Korean representative An Se Young in the second match tomorrow. On paper, An Se Young still has a 3-0 winning-loss record.
