Reddit Launches Community Muting Feature on its Mobile App

JAKARTA - Reddit, an entertainment and news website from the United States announced that it is launching a "Community Muting" feature on its mobile app.

Based on the information provided, this feature will give users more control over what they do and what they don't want to see on Reddit.

"We'll be rolling out this feature in the app over the next few weeks, so if you don't see it right away, close your eyes," the company said in a post on Reddit.

How Community Muting Works

This feature will allow you to later remove community posts from your Home/Popular notifications and feeds, including Home feed recommendations. In the initial rollout, muted communities will be removed from the Home and Popular feeds in the mobile app.

"The next step is to extend this feature to the reddit.com desktop site, and then we'll look at muting feeds and other surfaces," Reddit further explained.

The company discloses that muting a community will not restrict you from visiting or taking part in the community, you can still post and comment on communities that have been muted.

You can also unmute the community at any time in Settings, where you can manage community notifications and other preferences. Reddit says you can only mute up to 1.000 communities.

Where Can I Mute the Community?

There are currently three ways to mute a community. (1) In settings, (2) Via the three-dot icon on the top right of the community page, and (3) Through the three-dot icon on the top-right corner of Popular and Home.

Currently Reddit users are able to access and update community disabling settings only through the Android and iOS mobile apps.
