"Emissions Up To 29 Percent," Pertamina Director Nicke Widyawati Gave Off The Strategy
JAKARTA - State-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) supports Indonesia's aspiration to achieve net zero emissions by 2060.
President Director and President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati in a discussion of the COP27 panel at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, said that in 2021, Pertamina managed to reduce GRK emissions by 7.4 million metric tons of CO2 or 29.09 percent compared to the 2010 baseline.
Nicke said this emission reduction was achieved through reducing non-routine emissions from processes used for self-use of fuel and for gas supply to customers as much as 69.7 percent with more efficient equipment included in the Energy Efficiency Program, and contributing 13.9 percent because it uses low-carbon energy sources that account for 16.2 percent and other activities.
"To achieve net zero aspirations, Pertamina has developed a holistic strategy that is conveyed through two pillars, namely decarbonization of business activities and the development of new green businesses; and three enablers, namely developing carbon accounting standards that have been approved by national and international regulations and the application of Pertamina Internal Carbon Prices, building sustainability organizations that will keep Pertamina's business on the Net Zero Roadmap route, and the involvement of stakeholders to fully support national NZE targets and commitments," Nicke said in an official statement, Thursday, November 10.
Nicke added that this goal is supported by the company's long-term investment strategy. Pertamina's cumulative CAPEX through 2060 for the Green Business Initiative is estimated at around US$40 billion for biofuels, renewable energy sources, CCS/CCUS, battery and EV ecosystems, hydrogen and carbon businesses.
Pertamina accelerates the development of green businesses from upstream to downstream through an integrated value chain. Pertamina targets the EBT capacity to reach 60GW of diesel, hydro, wind power, and geothermal, to be able to meet its market share of 15 percent by 2060," he continued.
With the achievements achieved until 2021, continued Nicke, PT Pertamina (Persero) has an ambitious target until 2060.
"We also have the full support of the Government to work together in achieving the net zero plan in Indonesia," said Nicke.
Just so you know, Indonesia has increased the target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 31.89 percent on its own, and 43.20 percent with international assistance, through the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document.
