KPAI Encourages Disdik To Check SMP IT Al Hikmah Depok As Impacts Of 4 Students Died During School Activities
JAKARTA - Commissioner of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Retno Listyarti encouraged the Depok City Education Office (Disdik) to examine SMP IT Al-Hikmah Depok related to the case of four students being swept away until they died.
The four students were swept away while undergoing basic student leadership training (LDKS) in Curug Kembar, Batu Layang Village, Cisarua District, Bogor Regency.
This examination, said Retno, was carried out to find out whether there was an element of negligence from the school that resulted in the death of four students.
"I encourage the Depok City Education Office and the police according to their respective authorities to conduct inspections. Is there a permit related to the implementation of LDKS activities in Cisarua and do parents know that there will be tracking activities that will pass through the river on the LDKS activity rundown?" said Retno to reporters, Monday, October 17.
Retno also asked the Depok City Education Office to find out whether schools have SOPs in this activity, so that activity coaches and teachers have considered weather conditions.
Because, according to her, if it rains, it should not be allowed to have river tracking and crossing activities, especially in the curug area which is upstream from the river. Considering that when it rains, the water discharge can suddenly increase and the current can increases, there is even the potential for landslides.
"During the activity, it is also necessary to determine the children's clothes, whether they are suitable for tracking, such as trousers, sneakers, assistive and safety during river tracking and crossing activities," she said.
