Worried About The Safety Of Teachers Due To Floods, Teaching And Learning Activities At 29 Kapuas Hulu Schools Were Temporarily Suspended
KAPUAS HULU - Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) Kapuas Hulu Regency in West Kalimantan Province temporarily suspended teaching and learning activities in 29 schools affected by flooding."We have temporarily suspended teaching and learning activities due to floods," Kapuas Hulu District Education and Culture Office Head Petrus Kusni told Antara, Thursday, October 13.According to reports that were submitted to the Education and Culture Office, there was one public kindergarten, 26 elementary schools, and the first two junior high schools that were affected by flooding in the Kapuas Hulu area."We cannot fight against natural disaster conditions, so we take a policy so that schools prioritize the safety of education personnel and their students," said Petrus.He said that the temporary suspension of teaching and learning activities in schools affected by the flood was carried out in accordance with the flood conditions in the area where the school was located."We cannot determine how long learning will be dismissed in schools, of course it depends on each school adjusting to conditions in the field, if the water has receded, then school activities will return to normal," he said.Petrus appealed to parents of students in flood-affected areas to supervise children studying at home during teaching and learning activities at schools to be stopped.He also said that the agency reminded school administrators to increase preparedness to face the impact of disasters when heavy rains fell."We always remind the school to increase preparedness, especially in terms of safety (educators and students) as well as important documents in their respective schools considering that currently the rainfall is quite high," he said.Floods have hit parts of Kapuas Hulu Regency since Saturday (8/10). According to the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), floods hit 10 sub-districts in the district.BPBD Kapuas Hulu appealed to residents to increase their preparedness for natural disasters because the rainfall in Kapuas Hulu is still high.
