Two DPOs Smuggled By Rohingya Immigrants Detected In Malaysia

JAKARTA - The Aceh Regional Police (Polda) stated that two suspected Rohingya immigrants smuggling some time ago and who had been included in the wanted list (DPO), have now fled to Malaysia.

"Two suspected Rohingya immigrant smugglers who entered the DPO have now fled abroad, Malaysia," said Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Aceh Police, Kombes Sony Sanjaya, in Banda Aceh, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, December 2.

He said that his party had coordinated with Interpol and the Malaysian Royal Police to find the whereabouts of the two.

Both have the initials AJ and AR. AJ is recorded as Acehnese and AR ethnic Rohingya people who have entered Indonesia since 2011. So far, AR has been living in North Sumatra, funded by international migrant organizations.

The two DPOs are suspected of being involved in the smuggling of Rohingya ethnic immigrants who entered Indonesia via Seunodon Beach, North Aceh Regency in June 2020.

The alleged smuggling was carried out by AJ and AR together with four other people, namely FA and R, residents of Aceh and SD and AS, ethnic Rohingya residents who were accommodated in North Sumatra.

Previously, the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Aceh Police, Kombes Pol Ery Apriyono, said that the four, FA, R, SD, and the US, had been named as suspects.

"They are charged with Article 120 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. The threat of a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 15 years in prison and a fine of at least Rp. 500 million and a maximum of Rp. 1.5 billion," said Kombes Pol Ery Apriyono.
