2022 F1 World Champion, Max Verstappen Equals Michael Schumacher, Aryton Senna and Alain Prost's Achievements
JAKARTA - Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen has become the 2022 Formula 1 world champion. He sealed the title after winning the F1 Grand Prix of Japan, Sunday, October 9.
This is the second world title for Verstappen throughout his racing career in F1. Previously, he was the 2021 F1 world champion.
This achievement equals a number of legends of land jet racing. Starting from Michael Schumacher, Aryton Senna to Alain Prost.
He is included in the list of drivers who won two F1 world titles in a row.
"I think the first one is always a little emotional, but the second one is probably more beautiful. This season we have lived with many victories, great races, teamwork," said Verstappen in the official F1 website.
"It's a special year and one that you can really remember, because years like this are rare," he continued.
Verstappen's victory did feel special. The reason is, the 2022 F1 race still leaves four more series.
However, the acquisition of points from the Dutch racer is no longer possible to be chased by rivals. An additional 25 points from the Suzuka Circuit made him collect 366 points.
He is 113 points clear of team mate Sergio Perez who finished second. While the Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc, occupies the third position with 252 points.
