Present At The Signing Of The Kayan Hydropower Dam, Coordinating Minister Airlangga: Better
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto was also present and witnessed the signing of the Launching of Cooperation between PT Kayan Hydro Energy and Sumitomo Corporation on the Kayan Cascade hydropower Development Project.
Airlangga in his speech said that the construction of the hydropower plant had already caught President Joko Widodo's attention because this hydropower plant was also part of Indonesia's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emision in 2060 or sooner.
"We hope that all of this (cooperation) activity can be realized. Not only is the signing of the cooperation memo, but it can be realized in the form of investment. The sooner the better," he said at the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, October 6.
He added that President Jokowi also gave priority to the development of the energy transition, in this case the renewable energy development that will be built in Kalimantan.
For this reason, with this collaboration, he hopes to accelerate the construction of the KHE project.
"Of course I hope that according to the direction of the president in 2023 his physical work will be seen," continued Airlangga.
According to him, by cooperating with Sumitomo Corporation, which has made a lot of investments and construction of power plants in Indonesia, it can be a companion in the development of KHE.
KHE is the initiator and developer of the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) project located in North Kalimantan Province, precisely in Peso District, Bulungan Regency, with a capacity of 9,000 Megawattt which is divided into 5 dams.
"The government really hopes that the first phase of 900 megawatts can be continued in the second phase of 1200 megawatts and the fourth phase with 1,800 megawatts and the fifth phase of 3,300 megawatts," concluded Airlangga.
For information, the electricity generated by the hydropower project will supply green industrial areas developed by PT. Indonesia's Industrial Strategic (ISI) and electricity needs on the island of Kalimantan in general.
With the construction of the Kayan hydropower plant, the attractiveness of this green industrial area will be stronger for all industries that care about reducing carbon emissions.
And Sumitomo Corporation plans to promote the region to Japanese companies that are currently solid commitments to use electrical energy from renewable energy sources.
In addition, in order to support the program to accelerate the energy transition and increase renewable energy in the national energy mix, KHE and Sumitomo Corporation will also explore synergies opportunities to support national policies through cooperation initiatives with PLN to help accelerate carbon emission reduction according to the commitments of the Government of Indonesia in the Paris Agreement and COP26.
