Jambi Students And Children Rentan Become Victims Of Trafficking In Persons
JAKARTA - The Jambi City Government educates students and groups of children at risk to prevent the occurrence of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in the area.
The Deputy Mayor of Jambi, Maulana, admitted that the risk of criminal acts of trafficking in persons is easier to occur in the midst of the current digital era
"So we have to fight this by providing understanding, education, and reaching schools," he said as quoted by Antara.
As from the mandate of the law, he emphasized the duty of all parties to protect themselves from falling into negative things.
He also reminded the importance of taking sides with all stakeholders, starting from women observers, activists, universities, religious leaders, traditional leaders, community leaders, and law enforcers.
In addition, he said, the existence of a task force to prevent criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) can reach starting from groups of children who are still well maintained who are given protection and are given promotive and preventive efforts.
"We hope that there will be no more TIP cases in Jambi City, by providing various education to students' age children. Including groups of children who are at risk and groups who have entered the realm to the criminal realm," he explained, Saturday, September 24.
He said that one of the factors in the occurrence of people's trade was due to economic factors. For this reason, the government continues to strive in terms of poverty alleviation, such as providing assistance, or other things, improving the economic status and welfare of the community.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Jambi City Community, Women's and Child Protection Service (DPMPPA), Noverentiwi Dewanti, said that from January to August 2022 there were 13 cases of trafficking in the city of Jambi which were handled by the police at this time.
"The city of Jambi as the capital of Jambi Province, makes the opportunity for TIP to occur quite large," he explained.
He said, apart from economic factors, family factors were related to each other.
"The TIP case found has been handled by the Jambi Police and, the return to our parents is accompanied," he said.
Efforts that have been made by the government in fighting TIP start from visiting schools, being a resource person at the meeting moments at the RT level, Kelurahan level, to Subdistrict. Until in certain meetings, the government seeks to insert education regarding the prevention of child trafficking.
"These are efforts to get us to synergize together to fight TIP," he said.
