The Police Have Not Been Asked For Security Assistance For Abu Bakar Ba'asyir Who Is Being Treated At The Hospital
JAKARTA - The National Police emphasized that they have not deployed personnel to carry out special security against terrorism convict Abu Bakar Ba'asyir who is being treated at the RSCM. The reason is that the authority over this is in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).
"Now where is the process? Who will handle it? (Lapas Gunung sindur) who is responsible? So we are still waiting for the security request from the prison," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, to reporters, Friday, November 27.
According to Awi, there has been no special request from Kemenkumham for security assistance. But Awi said that the National Police was still monitoring the progress.
"But as those concerned, we are indeed terrorist convicts, of course we have an interest in monitoring their progress," he said.
Abu Bakar Ba'asyir was treated at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Central Jakarta, after complaining of headaches and nausea, since November 24.
Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Section of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) Rika Aprianti Baasyir is still undergoing intensive care with escort from the Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror personnel, Brimob Polda West Java, and Special Prison (Lapas) officers for Mount Sindur, Bogor, West Java .
"This is not the first time Abu Bakar Ba'asyir has been treated. Abu Bakar Ba'asyir is currently 82 years old," he said.
As for Ba'asyir, he was found guilty in several terrorism cases in the country. He was later sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Panel of Judges at the South Jakarta District Court in 2011.
Ba'asyir became a member of prison at Class III Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor on April 16, 2016. He was placed in a special cell, having previously been placed in a prison on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap, Central Java.
