East Kalimantan Wants To Determine Indigenous Forest Areas

JAKARTA - The East Kalimantan Provincial Government is ready to maintain and preserve customary forest areas as one of the strategies in spatial planning in the area.

Acting Regional Secretary for East Kalimantan, Riza Indra Riadi explained that the priority for preserving customary forest areas has been determined by laws and regulations, such as Paser Regency and West Kutai Regency.

"In addition to customary forest areas, there are also social forestry in the form of community forests, forest crops, people's forests and partnership forests as well as right forests that have been regulated in indications of zoning direction," said Riza Indra Riadi in Samarinda, Tuesday, September 20.

Riza, who was present on behalf of the Governor of East Kalimantan, conveyed the answer to the submission of the general views of the East Kalimantan DPRD factions on the Regional Planning Plan (RTRW) of East Kalimantan Province in 2022-2042, at Building D of the East Kalimantan DPRD.

He explained that with the Regional Regulation on RTRW for East Kalimantan Province in 2022-2042, customary forest areas through indigenous law communities were able to play an important role and make a major contribution in the development and improvement of the regional economy and encourage towards a more advanced region.

In addition, Riza continued, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government is also committed to accelerating economic transformation from renewable resource-based to renewable resources, and allocating funding for the implementation of low-carbon development plans through policies that have been issued so far.

"The provincial government is committed to continuing five-year priority programs in the RTRW, including rehabilitation and reclamation of land and forests, as well as land and water conservation and pollution control programs and peatland damage," he said as reported by Antara.

In addition, Riza continued, a sustainable forest management program was implemented, a pollution control program and environmental damage, through coordination, synchronization and implementation of greenhouse gas emission control, mitigation and climate change adaptation.
