Launching the official Kominfo website, Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the history of the founding of the Indonesian Bakamla began when the 2014 Nusantara Day commemoration was held in Kotabaru, Kalimantan Tuesday (Kalsel) on Monday, December 15, 2014.

Cabinet Secretary (Seskab), at that time, Andi Wijayanto, who was accompanying President Jokowi to attend the 2014 Nusantara Day commemoration in Kotabaru, said that Bakamla was formed based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 178/2014 concerning the Marine Security Agency.

Andi said Bakamla was given the task of carrying out security and safety patrols in Indonesian waters and jurisdictions.
