Liz Truss Is Elected As British PM, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: We Know Her Well
JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was looking forward to further cooperation with elected British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, praising her for always being on the side of the "enlightened" in European politics.
"In Ukraine, we know her well. She has always been on the enlightened side of European politics," President Zelensky said in a video of his evening address after praising her predecessor, Boris Johnson.
"I believe that together we will be able to do more to defend our country and the failure of all Russia's destructive efforts," he said.
As previously reported, Foreign Minister Liz Truss won the Conservative Party leadership contest, as well as the seat of British Prime Minister, after beating her rival former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak by a significant margin of votes.
After weeks of the leadership contest, Truss emerged victorious in the Conservative Party vote, with 81,326 votes to 60,399.
"I will present a bold plan to cut taxes and grow our economy," Truss said after the results were announced.

Today, along with Boris Johnson, Truss will meet Queen Elizabeth II in Scotland. Johnson will formally resign, with Truss next asked to form a new government.
