Komnas HAM Prepares Final Report On Brigadier J's Case To President Jokowi

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is preparing a final report related to the case of Brigadier J's death at the official residence of the former Head of the National Police Propam Division Inspector General Ferdy Sambo to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"The final report will be submitted to the President and DPR RI," said Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 23.

He said the final report to the Head of State and the DPR is a mandate from Law No. 39/1999 on Human Rights.

However, before submitting a complete report to the President and the DPR, Komnas HAM will first submit a brief and technical report to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"Hopefully it can be submitted this week. Most importantly it is related to recommendations," said Taufan.

Since the beginning of the case, there have been many developments, even leading to obstruction of justice or efforts to hinder the investigation of the case.

The short report that will be submitted by Komnas HAM will also focus on how to overcome the obstruction of justice in the case of the death of Brigadier J.

He believes the recommendation will be useful for the police if they face a similar case again.

"So, the complete report is submitted to the President and the DPR RI, while the brief report is submitted to the National Police Chief," he said.

Taufan also hopes that when submitting the brief report or recommendation, Komnas HAM and the National Police Headquarters can hold a joint press conference as a sign of cooperation in accordance with their respective main tasks and functions.

If the joint press conference has been held, he said, in general the tasks of Komnas HAM will be completed. However, the human rights institution will continue to supervise until the trial stage.
