Not Yet Thinking Of 'going Down The Mountain' To The World Of Politics Again, The Former Riau Islands Governor Admits He Still Wants To Play With His Grandchildren

RIAU - The former Governor of the Riau Islands (Kepri) for the 2016-2021 period, Nurdin Basirun, admitted that he had not thought about going down the mountain and returning to politics after being paroled for being involved in a corruption case.

"If you haven't thought about it now, but don't know in the future, you'll see later," said Nurdin when met after performing the Zuhur Prayer at the Al-Uswah Mosque, Tanjungpinang, Antara, Monday, August 22.

The former DPW NasDem Kepri cadre was also happy to be able to set foot again in Tanjungpinang, as well as establish friendship with local residents.

He also apologized to the residents of Tanjungpinang for the mistakes he had made that resulted in him being in prison for about four years.

"I personally apologize profusely to the people of Riau Islands, especially Tanjungpinang," said Nurdin.

He said that currently he still wants to focus on being with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

He also thanked him for being accepted in the community. Moreover, Nurdin's return after parole, Friday, August 19 was enthusiastically welcomed by thousands of residents in his homeland in Karimun Regency.

"I am very touched that it is still well received by the community," said Nurdin Basirun.

Nurdin Basirun was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in 2019 for accepting bribes and gratuities of around Rp. 4.2 billion from businessmen related to the issuance of a principle permit for the use of marine space, a reclamation location permit, and a permit for the implementation of reclamation.
