DKI Jakarta Changes Unsuitable Residential To Comfortable Through Regional Surgery

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Province has changed unfit and flood-prone housing into comfortable housing and free from puddles when it rains through a regional surgery program.

The Assistant for People's Welfare (Askesra) of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretariat (Setda) Uus Kuswanto inaugurated nine houses that were operated on through the area surgery program on Jalan Wijaya I, Gang Langgar, RT 11/RW 03, Petogogan Village, Kebayoran Baru District, South Jakarta.

"There is air circulation so that it is safe and comfortable to live in. Besides that, it is also free from puddles because the land is also elevated," said Uus Kuswanto in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 5.

Uus said that there were nine houses in the Petogongan Village that had been completed. Each house has three floors.

According to Uus, the area surgery is the right program because the area before the operation was very uninhabitable and prone to flooding during the rainy season due to overflowing water from the Krukut River.

Now the residents' housing that used to be unfit, has turned into a safe and comfortable place thanks to the area surgery program in collaboration with the South Jakarta Baznas-Bazis.

Not only that, in the area now there are free internet facilities, JakWifi, as well as sports facilities in the form of badminton courts and table tennis.

On the same occasion, South Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said the program would not stop only in that area.

The City Government (Pemkot) of South Jakarta has prepared many locations that have been prioritized for repairs for livable houses.

"Furthermore, in North Cipete, we are currently collecting data and cleaning the area. And the renovation of one house, which is individual in nature, is still ongoing," said Munjirin.

Head of DKI Jakarta Baznas-Bazis, Abu Bakar, said that initially the RT/RW area was renovated as many as 21 houses.

However, because some residents changed their minds, only nine houses were inhabited by nine families and 37 people.

"Work started three months ago with a house measuring 30-60 square meters and built on three floors," said Abu Bakar.

The first floor is for citizen interaction, the second floor is the living room, kitchen and bathroom and the third floor is the bedroom.

One of the residents who felt the benefits of the program, Fajar Cahya Gumilar, said that he and the residents positively welcomed the area surgery.

In the past, his parents' house was uninhabitable. But now it is nice and livable with air circulation and comfortable facilities.

"For that I thank the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," he said.
