Drought In Kuyawage Lanny Jaya District, Papua, Regency Government Sends 11 Medical Workers And Builds Disaster Command Post

PAPUA - The Lanny Jaya Regency Government in Papua Province sent a team of 11 medical personnel to provide health services to residents affected by drought in Kuyawage District.

"Today we dispatched medical equipment with personnel, who have been there to provide health services to the community," said Lanny Jaya Regent Petrus Wakerkwa in Wamena, Antara, Thursday, August 4.

He said that the district government would arrange for the assignment of medical personnel in Kuyawage District. After serving for several weeks, the medical team will be withdrawn and replaced with another team. "We have arranged that every few weeks it will be replaced," said Petrus.

The acting district head said that four people were reported to have died in Kuyawage District, but the exact cause was unknown. "For the truth, we have not received a written report or a report from the field whether he died due to a disaster or natural," he said.

He explained that in addition to sending a medical team, the district government established a post for handling the impact of the disaster and distributed food aid to 548 families affected by drought in Kuyawage District.

"We have established an emergency post. I am the chairman, assisted by Dandim Jayawijaya, Police Chief Lanny Jaya, Regional Secretary Lanny Jaya, and several (officials) in other fields," he said.

In addition to establishing a post, he said, the local government plans to open an aid account to facilitate the distribution of aid for residents affected by the disaster.

Lanny Jaya Police Chief AKBP Umar Nasatekay said the resort police and the military district command were ready to help distribute aid to Kuyawage.

​"We ​​always deliver there, by road, deliver to the Kuyawage Mountains. Goods are accommodated there, later shared with church shepherds. We have just arrived at the Kuyawage Mountains, haven't gotten there yet but we are still monitoring ," he said.

The Military District Commander 1702/Jayawijaya Lt. Col. CPN Atenius Murip said that the TNI was also ready to assist local governments in transporting aid to disaster-affected areas.

"We will transport aid from Wamena (Jayawijaya Regency)-Lanny Jaya and we will distribute it," he said.
