Dian Sastro Director Of Film Nougat
JAKARTA - Dian Sastrowardoyo was involved in the omnibus film Quarantine Tales, which was inspired by stories of the quarantine period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dian Sastrowardoyo's involvement is not as a player, but as a director in one of the stories. This is Dian Sastrowardoyo's first experience as a director in a film title.
"Maybe the language is disrupted. So the writer only takes a few weeks to finish the script with high supervision. After that, the pre-production period starts. The first time I become a director, the first time I make a story board," said Dian Sastrowardoyo in a virtual press conference, Wednesday.
In this omnibus project, Dian Sastrowardoyo brought up the title Nougat, which tells the story of three siblings who can only meet through virtual.
Dian said the idea for the story came during the early days of the implementation of large-scale social restrictions or the PSBB which resulted in the inability to carry out large gatherings.
"At the beginning of the PSBB, it was difficult for us to meet our friends, relatives, even for Eid we were also online using video calls," said Dian Sastrowardoyo.
Dian invited the audience to explore the life problems of the characters in the story, played by Adinia Wirasti to Marissa Anita.
"From the video call journey we can see how sometimes they feel disconnected, feel disconnected, they can't see eye to eye, and physically," said Dian Sastrowardoyo.
"But on the one hand, through video calls, they can still find connections. So this is a journey how a family, although separated, can still find connections," he continued.
For Dian, her first experience as a director in a film title is both very challenging and interesting. He also admitted that he was lucky in his first project as a director to get a strong team to support him.
"I'm lucky that in this first production I got a fantastic actress and actor," he added.
