Preventing Victims, Police Collaborate With Residents To Prevent Brawl

JAKARTA - The Tebet Police is collaborating with youth groups, parents, and schools to prevent brawls between groups of teenagers in the Tebet area, including in KH Abdulah Syafei Street, Bukit Duri, South Jakarta, because clashes often occur in that location.

"If there is an information gathering, we will immediately go to it. If there are indications that the children are getting crowded, there are lots of motorbikes parked, we will immediately pick up the ball," said Tebet Police Chief Commissioner Chitya Intania quoting Antara, Tuesday, July 19.

Not only that, but the police also take a number of other preventive measures, such as patrolling during peak hours or students returning home from school.

Chitya involved the Criminal Investigation Unit, Intelkam, and Community Guidance while patrolling a number of points such as Tebet Station, Manggarai Terminal to KH Abdulah Syafei Street, Bukit Duri.

"Until they return home, it is seen that the area is safe and conducive at the time they are at home," she said.

In addition to supervision, Chitya said the police also often provide counseling to various schools, regarding the dangers of brawls, drug abuse, bullying of teenagers, and the use of social media.

According to her, there needs to be cooperation between the police and schools, and parents to anticipate and prevent juvenile brawls.

"Sometimes we visit the school 'please check the children when they come home from school, the parents report that the children have arrived'. Homeroom teachers and parents must be active," said Chitya.
