Involved In A Fraud Case In Bali, British Foreigners Threatened 4 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - A foreign national (WNA) from England named Scott James Deakin (25) can be sentenced to imprisonment for four years in accordance with Article 378 of the Criminal Code for alleged fraud that occurred at a hotel in the Denpasar area, Bali.

"The perpetrator admitted that he checked in by booking online via agoda.com and had not made a payment because his credit card could not be used. Then, the perpetrator admitted that he had occupied a hotel room in the Kuta area from 21 July 2020 to 1 August 2020 and had not made a payment, and promised I will pay but not, "said Chief Criminal Officer of Kuta Iptu Made Putra Yudistira, when confirmed in Denpasar, as reported by Antara, Thursday, November 5.

He said that from the results of the interrogation, the perpetrator admitted that he had promised to pay the hotel rent via an international bank transfer totaling 199.11 euros or Rp3,720,000, but it had not been done until leaving the hotel.

The perpetrator was arrested on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at around 6:00 p.m. local time at a pharmacy, who was with a woman, then the perpetrator was secured to the Kuta Police for further processing.

Yudistira explained that on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at around 18.00 WITA the perpetrator entered the hotel which is located at Jalan Popies II Gg. Ronta, Kuta Badung. At that time the perpetrator had booked hotel tickets online via agoda.com.

"After being checked by the hotel, it turned out that the booking was delayed by agoda.com because the perpetrator's credit card had no money, then the perpetrator re-booked and the same thing happened (no money) but the perpetrator still insisted that his credit card could still be used and he will deal with agoda.com, "he said.

After checking, it is true that the perpetrator's credit card cannot be used. Until finally on July 31, 2020, the perpetrator made an online payment (international bank transfer) of 199.11 Euros (Rp. 3,720,000.

"The perpetrator promised his money to enter on August 1, 2020 at 13.10 WITA, then August 1, 2020 morning, victim I Ketut Wira Adnyana Putra (the hotel) sent a message via WhatsApp to the perpetrator saying the money had not arrived, but was not replied to," he said.

Furthermore, on August 1, at around 10:00 local time, he left the hotel but his belongings were still in the room, and until October 10, 2020 the perpetrator did not return to the hotel. However, only via whatsapp message said they promised to return to the hotel. Due to this incident, the reporter suffered a loss of approximately Rp3,720,000.
