PTPP Starts Construction Of Wastewater Treatment Plants In Palembang
JAKARTA - The state-owned construction company, PT PP (Persero) Tbk, has started the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) project in Palembang City. The construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Palembang IPAL project which was held on Wednesday, November 4 yesterday.
The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by the Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, Deputy Governor of South Sumatra Mawardi Yahya, Mayor of Palembang Harnojoyo, SVP of Infrastructure Division 2 of the Company Pande Ketut, General Manager McConnell Dowell Nick Mossius.
PTPP together with an Australian contractor, namely McConnell Dowell, who was formed in the consortium to become the Implementing Contractor in the construction of this project. The IPAL facility will be built on an area of approximately 5.8 hectares, located in Sei Selayur Village, Kalidoni District, Palembang.
"The construction of the IPAL project is targeted to be completed and operational in early 2022 with a total water capacity of more than 20,000 discharge per day," said M. Toha Fauzi, Operations Director 2 of PTPP in a written statement, Thursday, November 5.
The construction of this WWTP was also financed by a grant from the Australian Government of US $ 45 million. Meanwhile, the main distribution will be financed by the APBN and house connections will be financed by the City Government of Palembang and the Province of South Sumatra.
"The construction of the project aims to support access to clean water and household sanitation in Palembang City and benefit more than 100,000 people or the equivalent of 5 percent of the population of Palembang City," explained Fauzi.
He explained that the construction of this IPAL is a solution in dealing with sanitation of household waste and can gradually improve environmental conditions in Palembang City. Apart from clean water and safe sanitation, it is hoped that it can improve public health in Palembang City.
"In accordance with what was mandated by the Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR, not only on time we will also strive to complete the construction with the right quality and cost.
