President Jokowi Summons Governor Edy Rahmyadi To The Palace

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo summoned the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, to the Jakarta Presidential Palace to discuss agrarian issues in North Sumatra.

"Today we have a limited meeting on agrarian matters, on land, in North Sumatra. I am the Governor of North Sumatra, who was ordered by the President to report on agrarian conditions, with the relevant ministers, to accelerate the settlement of land issues in North Sumatra", Governor Edy explained after attending a limited meeting in Jakarta as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 11.

Governor Edy said that North Sumatra is full of plantations and land, which have many problems that must be resolved. He revealed that he was summoned to the Palace because the President wanted input from the provincial government regarding the resolution of agrarian issues in North Sumatra.

"The president (has) visited North Sumatra, asked questions, saw, so he needed definite input. So here I am called", explained Governor Edy.

According to him, the amount of land that still leaves problems in North Sumatra reaches thousands of hectares, including land with Hak Guna Usaha/Cultivation Rights (HGU) and land that was ex-HGU.

Governor Edy emphasized that the discussion of agrarian issues in North Sumatra was carried out to benefit all parties because the community needed certainty about the land they used.

"There is something for the community, this needs certainty. This is talking about legal issues. He must be fair, must have certainty for the people, and must be useful for the welfare of the people, not for the mafias who take an opportunity in adversity", he explained.

Governor Edy revealed that in a limited meeting it was decided that a team would be formed to resolve agrarian problems in North Sumatra, which would study the possibility of granting land certificates to the community to provide legal certainty.
