AS Roma Resigns Unilaterally, AC Milan Proposes To Be A Candidate Against Barcelona In Joan Gamper
JAKARTA - AS Roma's decision to withdraw from the Joan Gamper Trophy had confused Barcelona as the organizer. But recently, the Spanish La Liga club has found a new opponent who is willing to replace AS Roma.
Quoted from Football Espana, AC Milan is reportedly ready to play against Barcelona on August 6.
Previously AS Roma was appointed to be Barcelona's opponent in this annual pre-season event, but the Giallorossi withdrew unilaterally. Roma claim they need to prepare for the season in the best possible way and the friendly is not ideal.
The withdrawal of AS Roma unilaterally made Barca angry and intend to file demands. This was done on the grounds of default which harmed fans who had already bought match tickets.
After this news surfaced, the CEO of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi then pressured other clubs in Europe to avoid friendly matches with clubs still involved in the European Super League. Barcelona is also part of the group that created the rival league.
The appeal does not seem to affect AC Milan to move forward to replace AS Roma. Milan are also reportedly ready to bring their men's and women's teams together with Barcelona as the hosts unveil their squad to the fans ahead of the new season.
The meeting between AC Milan and Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy clearly has the potential to make Franck Kessie compete against his potential colleagues. Because Kessie is also expected to be close to Barcelona after his contract at Milan ends.
