Lampung Enters The Red Zone Of Radicalism, Governor Arinal Djunaidi Asked To Be The Locomotive For Handling
LAMPUNG - Socio-political researcher from the University of Lampung, Arif Sugiono said, intolerant groups have emerged and the seeds of radicals are spreading in the Lampung area. He asked the government to immediately follow up on the findings.
"The findings of a number of official research institutions on radicalism put Lampung in the red zone. Stakeholders of Lampung Province must immediately work together," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 29.
He revealed that the mechanism for handling intolerant groups and the distribution of seeds of radicals in Lampung was not yet strategic.
Therefore, the Governor of Lampung is the most relevant stakeholder to lead and synergize other stakeholders in Lampung.
"The handling of intolerant groups in Lampung so far is still partial. Each institution operates independently, not yet strategically synergizing," he said.
Furthermore, he also considered the geographical aspect of Lampung, which is not far from Jakarta. According to Arif, Lampung's location close to Jakarta makes it easier for radical groups to act in Jakarta.
“Geographically, Lampung is relatively close to Jakarta as the center of power. Thus, when the intolerant group wants to mobilize the masses to take action to Jakarta, they don't have to travel far," he said.
Thus, he proposed that the government establish a Religious People's Forum at the Lampung Province level, which also needs to involve community leaders.
“Through this forum, what is called an early warning system from a social perspective is built. The public is motivated to carry out early detection, when certain parties are indicated to be intolerant and or carry out activities that lead to intolerance," he said.
In this case, Arif hopes that the initiation will come from the Governor of Lampung Province as the highest leader in the province.
“If the locomotive is the governor, then an early warning system mechanism can be built, starting from the neighborhood level. In essence, residents are motivated to be more concerned about what is happening around them, without having to erode already good local wisdom," he said.
He was of the view that the spread could not only occur through Islamic boarding schools, but could also take place through general education institutions and integrated educational institutions.
"The curriculum in Islamic boarding schools and other educational institutions on the island of Java is relatively well controlled, in Lampung this is not the case," he said.
In fact, according to him, some educational institutions in Lampung are not controlled by the government.
"Both the curriculum, learning content, as well as the criteria for teaching staff, are not controlled by the government. This condition can allow for indoctrination of students," he said.
