Mahfud Invites TNI To Maintain Human Rights Enforcement, Which The UN Considers Good
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD invites the TNI to always maintain the enforcement and protection of human rights (HAM) in the country which has received a good assessment from the UN Human Rights Council.
"Let us safeguard and uphold human rights. We maintain this good judgment. We avoid that the TNI should not be structured or intentionally commit crimes against humanity," said Mahfud when giving directions to around 900 participants in the Army Commander's Call (Dansat) at the Military Academy. According to him, the TNI already has standard operating procedures in carrying out various actions so that human rights violations, especially gross human rights violations, can be avoided.
Mahfud while attending the Opening of the 50th Session of the UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva, Switzerland, Monday (13/6), listening to a speech by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights which stated that Indonesia was not included in the list of 21 countries whose human rights developments they were referring to.
Thus, he continued, Indonesia did not have a bad record related to the enforcement and protection of human rights in the last 3 years.
In the briefing which was also attended by the Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) General Dudung Abdurrahman, Mahfud appreciated the TNI which for the past 7 years has always been the most trusted institution by the public based on survey results from a number of credible institutions.
"I congratulate and thank you because based on a survey of credible institutions, it is stated that the TNI is the most trusted institution by the public compared to other institutions in Indonesia," he said.
Therefore, said Mahfud, the TNI, especially the Army, must be able to respond wisely to various developments in the situation and conditions, both on a national, regional and global scale that have an impact on the stability and security situation of Indonesia, especially in the midst of the preparation and implementation of the 2024 General Election.
At the end of his directive, Mahfud hoped that the TNI could be a role model for the community in supporting the national economic recovery, structural reforms, and overcoming the difficulties of the people around them with the tasks of military operations other than war.
