Police Search For Missing Police Dogs In Police Operations
JAKARTA - Japanese police are conducting a search for a police dog who disappeared during a police operation. The search was massive, involving 41 police officers.
The dog, called Kureba-go, reportedly fled amidst a search operation for a woman on a mountain in Hyogo Prefecture, Tuesday, October 27. Kureba-go disappeared nearly two days before being found on Wednesday, 09:40 local time.
Kureba-go was found in good condition, without injuries and signs of disturbance. The two-year-old German Shepherd fled on Sunday, October 25 at around 2.30pm, after a police officer lost his leash.
After losing Kureba-go, the police spread information about the loss and alerted citizens to participate by providing related information. Kureba-go was found near the top of a 683 meter high mountain, about a hundred meters southwest of the last sighted point.
Kureba-go, which is about 120 cm long, was found with a rope wrapped around a tree. The officers tried to calm Kureba-go by giving him a piece of bread and fish sausage. The reason why Kureba-go fled is unknown, police said.
Not a new police dog. Reported by Kyodonews.net, the dog was on duty since January and previously managed to find four missing people. The police said they would consider whether to continue working with Kureba-go after this incident.
Regarding the search for a 54-year-old woman underway by Kureba-go, the operation was triggered by a call from the woman's family. The woman was found dead on Sunday, October 25th afternoon by another police dog. The woman's death was not considered suspicious.
