So That The FMD Virus Is Not Carried Into The House, Sellers Of Sacrificial Animals Are Urged To Spray Disinfectant On Buyers
JAKARTA - The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jktim) appealed to sellers of sacrificial animals to spray disinfectant to buyers to prevent the spread of the mouth and nail disease (PMK) virus from humans to animals.
"Spraying disinfectant to incoming buyers. Not only hands but the whole body," said Head of the East Jakarta Food, Maritime, and Agricultural Security Service (KPKP), Ali Nurdin, quoting Antara, Tuesday, June 21.
Ali added, although humans cannot be infected with FMD, the virus can stick to the body and be transmitted to the sacrificial animals.
Ali said the application of strict biosecurity at the place of sale of sacrificial animals needed to be carried out to prevent the spread of FMD.
"If possible, a foot deep bath can be prepared so that footwear can also be disinfected," said Ali.
Furthermore, he said that his party stated that it had carried out routine checks at the place of sale of sacrificial animals to prevent the spread of PMK.
"We have routinely monitored and checked animal health," he said.
