Observer: Surya Paloh Just Looking For Momentum To Declare Anies Candidate NasDem

JAKARTA - Esa Unggul University political communication observer, Jamiluddin Ritonga, highlighted the name of Governor Anies Baswedan who was the most proposed presidential candidate in the National Working Meeting of the NasDem Party. According to him, it was predictable that the party created by Surya Paloh wanted Anies to run for the 2024 presidential election.

"The size of the NasDem DPW's support for Anies Baswedan to become a presidential candidate was predictable. Before the National Working Meeting, some DPWs had expressed their support for Anies," said Jamiluddin in Jakarta, Friday, June 17.

At least, Jamiluddin continued, Anies had strong support from the grassroots of the NasDem Party. According to him, this support will make it easier for Surya Paloh to decide on Anies as the sole presidential candidate from Nasdem.

"It is said to make it easier for Surya Paloh, because before the National Working Meeting there were factions in NasDem who did not want Anies to become a presidential candidate. This refusal naturally became unreasonable with the huge support for Anies from the Nasdem DPW for the presidential candidate," he said.

Therefore, according to Jamiluddin, Anies' nomination as a presidential candidate from NasDem is just a matter of waiting. He said, Surya Paloh no longer needed to look for political justifications to carry Anies as a presidential candidate.

"Surya Paloh is just looking for the right momentum to declare Anies as a presidential candidate," he said.

Previously, Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, welcomed the aspirations of DPW-DPW throughout Indonesia regarding the selection of presidential candidates to be promoted in the 2024 General Election. In today's National Working Meeting (Rakernas), the names of DKI Governor Anies Baswedan and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo appeared. which was proposed by many NasDem cadres.

To note, this time the NasDem Party did not open a presidential candidate convention. However, each DPW is allowed to choose 3 names that they want to carry in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Later the top 3 names will be determined one to be carried as a presidential candidate.

"It's quite positive from the aspirations of the participants of this National Working Meeting. But at the appropriate time tomorrow night who will announce it," said Surya Paloh at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, June 16.

However, Surya said, the owner of the highest voting was not necessarily promoted as the NasDem presidential candidate. This is because the name will still be reconsidered when NasDem joins the coalition.

"Not necessarily. Because basically the weighting that we do is the same, whoever it is," he said.

Surya said NasDem had not considered internal names to be put forward in the presidential election. Similar to the determination of Anies or Ganjar, Surya asked all parties to wait for the decision of the National Working Meeting.

"We'll see," he said.

So far, Surya said, his party has not seriously discussed the presidential candidate with the figures whose names appeared in the NasDem National Working Meeting. Although, there are plans to meet the mentioned parties.

"Indeed there is a discourse, there has never been anything like this before. Maybe after it is announced tomorrow, you will see. Then I will think about what is positive. Next time there will be a wider perspective from the NasDem discussion, emphasizing aspects of quality and responsibility as well as strong leadership," he explained.

"God willing, if anyone announces it tomorrow, we will see a good time (for communication)," he said.
