Mahfud MD Meets One-to-One With Rachmawati Soekarnoputri To Discuss National Issues

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD held a one-on-one meeting with Rachmawati Soekarnoputri. They talked about the current political situation and efforts to save the country from various threats at Mahfud's office.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) said that as a representative of the government, he heard Rachmawati's desire to fight for Indonesia as her father, Soekarno, did.

"In this matter, we have met. Now, from a technical point of view, the operations may be different, but we both agree to seek a canalization to improve the nation in the future," Mahfud said in a written statement quoted by VOI, Tuesday, October 27.

Mahfud and Rachmawati also agreed on democracy which must continue to be developed. With a note, those who express opinions must not be repressed, and those who express opinions must not act anarchically.

"In essence, Mbak Rahma has a concern that Indonesia is well maintained, in any situation and in any political differences," he said.

In addition, they discussed the current political situation which is often colored by demonstrations. They agree, demonstrating, gathering, organizing to express opinions are part of democracy. However, both agreed that actions like this should not be accompanied by anarchist groups.

"If a democracy is accompanied by anarchists, nomocracy will work. If democracy is the sovereignty of the people, nomocracy is the rule of law. Between democracy and nomocracy, it must be balanced, if there is anarchy in the democratic process then the law must work," Mahfud concluded.
