Encouraging The Government And DPR To Increase AGO's Budget, MAKI: Many Cases Have Been Handled To Save Huge State Losses

JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman encourages the Government and the DPR to increase the AGO's budget as a form of appreciation for the performance of the AGO in eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

"With his great achievements and increasing survey rankings, the Government and the DPR should have approved a budget of Rp. 24 trillion as a form of appreciation, appreciation and gift to the Attorney General's Office," said Boyamin in a statement quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 12.

Boyamin explained that based on the results of the Indonesian Political Indicators (IPI) survey, the Attorney General's Office had done a job that impressed the public. One of the performances that received the highest appreciation from the public was the handling of allegations of rare corruption and the high cost of cooking oil.

Furthermore, he reminded, apart from the cooking oil case, the Attorney General's Office during the second term of President Jokowi had handled other cases with very high state losses. Among them was the Jiwasraya case, with assets and money that could be saved of Rp. 18 trillion from a loss of Rp. 16 trillion.

The second case is the case of Asabri. In this case, the Attorney General's Office was able to save Rp. 16 trillion from a loss of Rp. 20 trillion, and to save Rp. 1.2 trillion from the Batam textile import case, and a number of other cases.

"If you add up, the loss that can be saved by the Attorney General's Office is IDR 46.8 trillion," said Boyamin, who started his activist career from Central Java.

Therefore, he views that an additional Rp. 24 trillion in the budget is needed for the welfare of the prosecutors, including a sufficient salary increase to avoid deviant behavior.

"On the other hand, in order to maintain the abundance of prosecutors and to prevent alleged irregularities, it is necessary to strengthen the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) in the form of being given the authority to conduct criminal investigations against unscrupulous prosecutors and not just a code of ethics process. In addition, the budget for Jamwas should be added,” said the man from Solo, Central Java.
