Sri Mulyani Wants To Apply A Sharia Economic System In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The government plans to implement a comprehensive Islamic financial economy in every aspect of life. This is because the economic values of Islamic finance are considered in accordance with the social values in Indonesia.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said the Islamic financial economy has unique values. Such as honesty, justice, help, professionalism, and taking sides with the weak. So, it is very suitable to be applied in Indonesia.

"The similarity of these values encourages the implementation of a more comprehensive Islamic economic system in every aspect of life," in a webinar entitled 'Indonesia Towards the World Halal Center', Saturday, October 24.

The state treasurer said the sharia financial economic system could also be an alternative driving economic growth and economic recovery from the impact of COVID-19. As well as being able to answer various challenges in the dynamics of the Indonesian national economy.

Sri said, although Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country, it must be admitted that the role and contribution of the sharia economy to the national economy has not been optimal.

Therefore, Sri said, the government is committed to continuing to develop the Islamic economy and finance, among others by forming the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS). Where the Chairperson is President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), and the Chairperson of the Daily Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin.

"As the Minister of Finance, I am the Secretary of the KNEKS, I welcome and appreciate the initiative to sign a memorandum of understanding between the KNEKS and MUI regarding economic development and Islamic finance," he said.

Sri said he was optimistic that Indonesia's great potential to become the leader of the world's halal product industry could be realized if all stakeholders synergize with strategic steps.
