FP3 Moto3 Barcelona: Almost Breaking Q2, Mario Aji Is Better Than His Malaysian Teammates And Riders
JAKARTA - Indonesian racer, Mario Aji, almost entered the second qualifying session (Q2) of the Barcelona MotoGP after performing quite impressively in the third free practice session at the Catalunya Circuit, Saturday, June 4.
The Honda Team Asia racer was in 17th position with a time of 1 minute 48,842 seconds when FP3 ended, only three positions away from the deadline for the riders who immediately qualified directly for Q2.
Mario Aji's achievement was much better than his teammate Taiyo Furusato, who placed 24th and Malaysian racer Syarifuddin Azman who was in 25th position.
Mario Aji actually started this session quite well. After devouring four rounds, he was able to occupy the 11th position with a time of 1 minute 50,067 seconds.
After that, he then went into the pits to get a better setting.
Mario Aji then sharpened his time to 1 minute 49,919 seconds on the 8th lap. However, his position actually slipped to position 24.
Two minutes before the end of FP3, Mario Ajui again improved his time to 1 minute 48,842. That puts him in 14th position and gives him a chance to qualify directly for the second qualifier.
Unfortunately, he failed to maintain his position. Mario Aji finished the session in 17th position, 0.148 seconds adrift of Carlos Tatay who placed 14th.
This session itself was controlled by Dennis Foggia. The Leopard Racing racer recorded the fastest lap time of 1 minute 47,765 seconds.
